Kanye West might be what politics need

Who cares about the 2016 presidential candidates? Kanye West says he plans to run in 2020.

In a speech at this year’s VMA’s, the infamous rapper said “and yes, as you probably could’ve guessed by this moment, I have decided in 2020 to run for president.”

Since West admitted to smoking marijuana before going on stage, many are questioning whether he would take this position seriously. Younger generations seem to be his biggest fans while older generations are often turned off by his arrogance. But West is hip and a liberal thinker, which means he could do in office what older, more seasoned candidates cannot.

As much I would love to see West get serious and run for president, I’m not sure it would be best for our country. Right now it seems that running for president without any type of political background is trending. I think West has realized this, and since he has money to waste he’s like “why not.”

There are a lot of Americans who would be upset with West as president. West is known for being a little ridiculous and outlandish in public. He’s often considered as joke, especially since marrying into the Kardashian family. The thought of Kim Kardashian West as the first lady may have the American people more upset than the thought of him as the leader of this country. She is famous, but she has a negative image because of her family, her behavior and her reality T.V. show.

Although I’m really not sure how West would do running a country, I am not against it. Sometimes changes is necessary and he might be just that. While I think that West telling the public he was running for president was done at the spur of the moment, I know he has enough self confidence to go through with it.

Five years is still a long way off and the 2016 election will take place first, but I will be able to vote in 2020 and Kanye West might just receive my vote!
